Bosch E-Bike Tuning Gen 1–4 – License Code for Unlocking via USB

This product is a digital license code that is provided immediately after purchase. Once it has been provided, a return or refund is no longer possible.

So please clarify beforehand:

• Can your e-bike be connected to the Bosch eBike Flow app? Then you need the Smart System code, not this one.
• Do you have a Windows PC with Google Chrome? (Mac and smartphones are not supported here.)
• Do you have a real Micro-USB data cable?
• Are you aware that the speed will be shown halved afterwards?

• a compatible Bosch e-bike of Generation 1 to 4
• a Windows PC or Windows laptop
• Google Chrome
• a suitable Micro-USB data cable
• an internet connection
• the license code you received by email

Important: The cable must be able to transfer data. Charge-only cables do not work.

Installation with a smartphone, tablet, iPhone or iPad is not supported for this product. Neither is macOS.

1. Order the license code.
2. Open the email with the license code and instructions.
3. Switch on the e-bike.
4. Connect the e-bike to the Windows PC with a Micro-USB data cable.
5. Open Google Chrome.
6. Go to our activation page (you will find the link in your order confirmation): 1dragon.de
7. Enter the license code in full.
8. Establish the connection to the Bosch system.
9. Deactivate the speed limit.
10. Wait until the installation is fully complete.

⏱️ Activation normally takes about five minutes. Do not disconnect the cable and do not switch off the e-bike while the installation is running. For the second bike, repeat the steps with the same code.

Every license code has a fixed number of bike slots:

• 1 e-bike – one code with one slot, for one bike
• 2 e-bikes (1 code for both) – one code with two slots, for two bikes

In both cases you receive exactly one code. Two separate codes are not sent.

Important: Every activation takes up a slot permanently. Once all slots are taken, the code is used up and cannot be transferred to another bike.

After activation, from approximately 12 km/h the speed is shown halved on the display. Examples:

• Display shows 15 km/h – actually approximately 30 km/h
• Display shows 20 km/h – actually approximately 40 km/h
• Display shows 22.5 km/h – actually approximately 45 km/h

The recorded kilometers can also be shown correspondingly reduced. If you want to check your actual speed, use a GPS speedometer app.

Can I set exactly 32 km/h? No. With Generation 1 to 4 there is no freely selectable top speed. The tuning is either fully activated or deactivated again.

After successful activation, the motor provides assistance up to approximately 45 km/h, depending on the Bosch system and bike configuration. The speed you can actually reach depends on:

• Bosch motor and system generation
• gear ratio and selected gear
• battery charge level and battery condition
• rider weight and load
• tire pressure and tire size
• uphill or downhill gradient
• headwind and outside temperature
• technical condition of the e-bike

Unlocking the speed is no guarantee that every e-bike will reach the maximum speed under all conditions.

In most cases the problem lies with the USB cable or the connection to the PC. Check the following in order:

1. Switch on the e-bike.
2. Use Google Chrome.
3. Make sure the cable is a data cable.
4. Try a different Micro-USB data cable.
5. Use a different USB port on the computer.
6. Close the browser completely and open it again.
7. Disconnect the e-bike from the cable and reconnect it.
8. Open the activation page again.

When riding with active assistance above approximately 32 km/h, tuning detection and Bosch error 504 can occur in rare cases. Possible effects: reduced or stuttering motor assistance, limitation to a low speed or display of error 504.

If the error occurs: Keep riding the e-bike in the limited state. After approximately 12 to 20 kilometers the error normally resets automatically.

If it is detected repeatedly, the Bosch system can put the motor into a protection mode permanently. After a third detected manipulation, an inspection by a Bosch dealer may become necessary. Based on experience so far, this happens extremely rarely.

Check the magnet and sensor: Check the position of the spoke magnet relative to the speed sensor. The magnet must pass exactly by the marking, the distance must be correct, both must be firmly mounted and no metal shavings may stick to the sensor.

The software tuning can be deactivated again via our activation page. To do this, connect the e-bike to the Windows PC again, open the web tool and reset the system to its original state.

A bike slot that is already taken remains assigned to that e-bike even after deactivation.

The e-bike should be in its original or a compatible software state. Software modifications already made, replaced electronic components or non-original system parts can affect installation and function.

Future updates: Bosch can release new software or firmware versions that affect how the tuning works. So before installing a Bosch update, check whether the new version is already compatible. You can find the current status under News & Updates.

Higher speeds require more energy. This can reduce the range. The following components can also be subjected to greater stress: battery, motor, brakes, tires, chain, cassette, suspension.

Check the e-bike regularly and make sure that the brakes, tires and drivetrain are technically suitable for the higher load and in perfect condition.

After completing your order, you will usually receive an email within a few minutes with your personal Bosch tuning license code, the link to the installation page, step-by-step instructions and important notes on use.

As this is a digital product, no parcel is shipped and there are no shipping costs. If the email does not arrive, please also check your spam, junk or promotions folder.

This product is digital content that is not supplied on a physical data carrier.

By placing your order, you expressly request that we begin performance of the contract before the withdrawal period expires, and you confirm your awareness that you lose your right of withdrawal once performance begins.

The right of withdrawal expires when the license code is provided. A return, exchange or refund is no longer possible after that, even if the code has not yet been redeemed.

A license code is valid for the number of bike slots selected at purchase and cannot be transferred to other bikes.

Removing the factory speed limit can cause the e-bike to lose its approval for use on public roads.

Use is permitted only where the law allows it, for example on enclosed private property with the consent of the owner, on non-public test tracks or as part of permitted competitions.

Before installation and use, inform yourself about the regulations that apply in your country. The modification can affect the operating permit, insurance cover and manufacturer's warranty. Installation and use are your own responsibility.

Safety information: Riding at higher speeds increases the braking distance and the risk of accidents and injury. Wear a suitable bicycle helmet and appropriate protective clothing, regularly check the brakes, tires, chain and drivetrain, and adapt your speed to the conditions and your riding ability.

Liability for defects: The statutory provisions apply. A voluntary manufacturer's warranty is to be considered separately.

Can I return the license code?
No. The right of withdrawal expires when the code is provided. So clarify before you buy whether your system is compatible. We check this free of charge via the contact form.

How do I know whether I have Gen 1–4 or the Smart System?
If your e-bike can be connected to the Bosch eBike Flow app, it is a Smart System. Then you need the other code. If in doubt, ask us first.

How quickly do I receive the license code?
Usually by email within a few minutes of purchase.

Do I have to install a tuning chip?
No. Activation is fully digital.

Do I need a smartphone?
No. This product requires a Windows PC or Windows laptop with Google Chrome.

Can I install the tuning with a Mac?
No. Installation is only offered for Windows with Google Chrome.
