Installation in just a few steps

Not compatible with the Bosch Smart System

This license code is not suitable for the Bosch Smart System, i.e. BES3.

You very probably have a Bosch Smart System if:

• your e-bike is connected to the Bosch eBike Flow app,
• an LED Remote is installed,
• a System Controller is fitted in the frame,
• a Kiox 300, Kiox 500 or Purion 200 is used or
• the e-bike was delivered from approximately model year 2022 onwards with the new Bosch system generation.

For the Bosch Smart System a separate BES3 license code is required.

Speed display after tuning

After activation the speed is shown halved on the display from approximately 12 km/h.

Examples:

• Display shows 15 km/h – actually approximately 30 km/h
• Display shows 20 km/h – actually approximately 40 km/h
• Display shows 22.5 km/h – actually approximately 45 km/h

The recorded kilometres can also be shown reduced or halved accordingly.

If you want to check the actual speed, you can use a GPS speedometer app or a separate GPS device.

Can a specific speed be set?

With Bosch systems of Generation 1 to 4, no freely selectable top speed such as 30 or 32 km/h can be set.

The tuning is either:

• fully activated or
• deactivated again.

Deactivating the tuning again

The software tuning can be deactivated again via the installation page.

If the e-bike is not detected

In most cases the problem lies with the USB cable used or with the connection to the PC.

Check the following points:

1. Switch on the e-bike.
2. Use Google Chrome.
3. Make sure that it is a data cable.
4. Test another Micro-USB data cable.
5. Use a different USB port on the computer.
6. Close the browser completely and open it again.
7. Disconnect the e-bike from the cable and reconnect it.
8. Open the installation page again.

USB cables intended solely for charging cannot establish a connection to the Bosch system.

Requirements for reliable operation

The e-bike should be in its original or compatible software state.

Software changes already made, replaced electronic components or non-original system parts can affect the installation and function.

A successful activation cannot be guaranteed for previously modified systems.

Bosch error 504 and tuning detection

When riding with active support above approximately 32 km/h, in rare cases tuning detection and Bosch error 504 can occur.

Possible effects are:

• reduced motor support,
• stuttering support,
• limitation to a low speed or
• display of error 504.

If the error occurs, the e-bike must continue to be ridden in the limited state. After approximately 12 to 20 kilometres travelled, the error normally resets automatically.

Avoid any further changes to the system during this distance and ride the e-bike as evenly as possible.

Repeated tuning detection

If the tuning detection occurs several times, the Bosch system can put the motor permanently into a protection mode.

After a third detected manipulation, it may be necessary for a Bosch specialist dealer to check the system with a Bosch diagnostic tool and unlock it again.

Based on experience so far, this case occurs extremely rarely. However, detection by the Bosch system cannot be completely ruled out.

Checking the magnet and speed sensor

If error 504 occurs, the position of the spoke magnet in relation to the speed sensor should additionally be checked.

Make sure that:

• the magnet passes exactly by the marking on the sensor,
• the distance between magnet and sensor is correct,
• the magnet and sensor are firmly mounted and
• no metal shavings or dirt are stuck to the sensor.

An implausible speed signal can additionally encourage the error detection.

Future software updates

Bosch may release new software or firmware versions that affect the function of the tuning.

A future update can:

• deactivate the unlock,
• prevent a renewed activation,
• cause error messages or
• temporarily not be supported.
