Shimano EP6 / EP8 E-Bike Tuning – License Code for Unlocking via Bluetooth

This product is a digital license code that is provided immediately after purchase. Once it has been provided, a return or refund is no longer possible.

So please clarify beforehand:

• Does your e-bike have a Shimano EP6 (EP600) or EP8 (EP800)? The EP801 is not supported yet.
• Does your e-bike have Bluetooth? Test: pairing with the Shimano E-TUBE app. Otherwise retrofit the EW-EN100 adapter first.
• Do you have an Android smartphone or a Windows PC/laptop with Bluetooth and Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge? (iPhone, iPad and Mac are not supported here.)
• Do you have up to 20 minutes for the activation and a stable internet connection?

You do not need a cable. Installation with an iPhone, iPad or Mac is not supported for this product.

1. Order the license code.
2. Open the email with the license code and instructions.
3. Close the Shimano E-TUBE app on all devices so that there is no second Bluetooth connection to the e-bike.
4. Switch on the e-bike and enable Bluetooth on the Android smartphone or Windows PC/laptop.
5. Open our activation page in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge: unlocked.bike
6. Select “Shimano” as the brand and choose your e-bike from the Bluetooth list.
7. Enter the license code in full.
8. If the page asks for it, install the required update.
9. Choose the assistance limit and apply the tuning.
10. Wait until the page has verified and confirmed the new setting.

⏱️ Allow up to 20 minutes. Depending on your e-bike's software, the page first installs an update. Keep the page open and in the foreground until the end (do not reload, do not switch tabs or apps), keep the e-bike switched on and Bluetooth connected. If the process is interrupted, start it again until it has run through completely; otherwise the e-bike may not be ready to ride. For the second bike, repeat the steps with the same code.

Every license code has a fixed number of bike slots:

• 1 e-bike – one code with one slot, for one bike
• 2 e-bikes (1 code for both) – one code with two slots, for two bikes

In both cases you receive exactly one code. Two separate codes are not sent.

Important: Every activation takes up a slot permanently. Once all slots are taken, the code is used up and cannot be transferred to another bike.

With many tuning solutions the display shows values that are too low after unlocking. Shimano is different: the speedometer keeps showing the actual speed. You do not have to convert anything and you do not need a GPS speedometer app.

After successful activation, the motor assists up to 45 km/h on the EP6 and up to 32 km/h on the EP8. The speed you can actually reach depends on:

• Shimano motor and software version
• gear ratio and selected gear
• battery charge level and battery condition
• rider weight and load
• tire pressure and tire size
• uphill or downhill gradient
• headwind and outside temperature
• technical condition of the e-bike

Unlocking the speed is no guarantee that every e-bike will reach the maximum speed under all conditions.

In most cases the Bluetooth connection is the cause. Check in this order:

1. Switch on the e-bike and move it briefly or press a button so that it is awake.
2. Close the Shimano E-TUBE app on all phones and tablets.
3. Turn on Bluetooth on the Android smartphone or Windows PC/laptop.
4. Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, not an iPhone, iPad or Mac.
5. Check whether your e-bike has Bluetooth at all (pairing with the E-TUBE app). Otherwise retrofit the EW-EN100 adapter first.
6. Close the browser completely, open it again and stay in the same tab while connected.

If the activation page reports that your bike is not supported, do not change anything else and send us a screenshot via the contact form.

The software tuning can be deactivated again via our activation page. To do so, connect the e-bike via Bluetooth again, open unlocked.bike and restore the original setting.

A bike slot that is already taken remains assigned to that e-bike even after deactivation.

The e-bike should be in its original or a compatible software state. Software modifications already made, replaced electronic components or non-original system parts can affect installation and function.

Future updates: A software update from the manufacturer or at the dealer can affect how the tuning works. You can find the current status under News & Updates.

Higher speeds require more energy. This can reduce the range. The following components can also be subjected to greater stress: battery, motor, brakes, tires, chain, cassette, suspension.

Check the e-bike regularly and make sure that the brakes, tires and drivetrain are technically suitable for the higher load and in perfect condition.

After completing your order, you will usually receive your personal Shimano tuning license code by email within a few minutes, together with the link to the installation page, step-by-step instructions and important notes on use.

As this is a digital product, no parcel is shipped and there are no shipping costs. If the email does not arrive, please also check your spam, junk or promotions folder.

By placing your order, you expressly request that we begin performance of the contract before the withdrawal period expires, and you confirm your awareness that you lose your right of withdrawal once performance begins.

The right of withdrawal expires when the license code is provided. A return, exchange or refund is no longer possible after that, even if the code has not yet been redeemed.

A license code is valid for the number of bike slots selected at purchase and cannot be transferred to other bikes.

Removing the factory speed limit can cause the e-bike to lose its approval for use on public roads.

Use is permitted only where the law allows it, for example on enclosed private property with the consent of the owner, on non-public test tracks or as part of permitted competitions.

Before installation and use, inform yourself about the regulations that apply in your country. The modification can affect the operating permit, insurance cover and manufacturer's warranty. Installation and use are your own responsibility.

Safety information: Riding at higher speeds increases the braking distance and the risk of accidents and injury. Wear a suitable bicycle helmet and appropriate protective clothing, regularly check the brakes, tires, chain and drivetrain, and adapt your speed to the conditions and your riding ability.

Liability for defects: The statutory provisions apply. A voluntary manufacturer's warranty is to be considered separately.

Can I return the license code?
No. The right of withdrawal expires when the code is provided. So clarify before you buy whether your system is compatible. We check this free of charge via the contact form.

Which Shimano motors is the code for?
For the Shimano EP6 (EP600) and the EP8 (EP800). The EP801 is not supported yet.

How fast will my e-bike go?
Up to 45 km/h with the EP6, up to 32 km/h with the EP8.

Is the actual speed displayed?
Yes. The speedometer keeps showing the actual speed.

Do I need a cable?
No. The connection is wireless via Bluetooth.

Can I install the tuning with an iPhone?

How long does activation take?

My e-bike has no Bluetooth. Does it still work?
Yes, with the Shimano Bluetooth adapter EW-EN100. After that, activation works as described.

Does the E-TUBE app still work afterwards?
Yes. Just close it during activation.

Can I remove the tuning again?
Yes. You restore the original setting via the activation page.
